In 2022, we celebrated the 18th Annual Onion Festival to benefit the Princeton Lions Club. Every year the town of Princeton comes together to celebrate the history of their community and pay homage to Collin’s County’s lucrative onion industry that put them on the map. By the 1940s, Princeton was the Onion Capital of Texas and shipped 172 train carts of onions each year.
The Princeton Lions Club Onion Festival was a day filled with sports, raffles, vendors, an auction, and a 5K race. Benefits raised from this event went towards Lions Club International Charities, which provide eye exams and eyewear to children in need. They also help the community by offering scholarships to deserving students from Princeton High School and running the Angel Tree Program during the holiday season.
