About Sherman, Texas
Sherman, Texas, is a city in central Grayson County located about 65 miles north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex on Highway 75 and intersected by U.S. Highway 82, and state highways 11 and 56, as well as several rail lines including Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Southern Pacific, and Burlington Northern.
Sherman was named after Sidney Sherman, a general in the Texas revolution, who actively supported the railroad. The town, founded in 1846 and originally located on a hill just three miles west of where it is today, was relocated in 1848 to its current day location.
Today, the city has a population of approximately 40,000 and is home to Austin College, Grayson College, and a highly rated school district. Sherman is also a manufacturing hub in the area, with several national companies having facilities nearby, including Procter & Gamble, Texas Instruments, Raytheon and Johnson & Johnson.
Sherman is also located about 30 minutes from Choctaw Casino Resort, a chain of hotels and casinos in Durant, Oklahoma.
