How Bike Crashes Happen
Bicycle accidents that result in injury occur far too frequently. Even when a bicyclist is taking proper precautions accidents can still happen. One common way bicycle accidents may occur is when a motorist attempts a maneuver, such as passing or turning, and fails to see the bicyclist. A distracted, fatigued, or impaired driver may especially fail to see a bicyclist or fail to maintain a safe distance.
A bicyclist may not be able to avoid an accident caused by another person, but wearing reflective gear or clothing and signaling can be beneficial. When possible, riding in designated bike lanes can also help avoid collisions.
