Loving Husband and Father Killed While Exchanging Insurance Information in Tragic North Texas Car Wreck

“He tried to ask for insurance, and he told me to call police and 911, and I was so nervous, so I started trying to unlock my phone, and the next thing I know everything blacked out,” Yarelis Martinez recalled of her husband’s final moments.

Sergio Torres died in a car accident that shut down eastbound I-20 in Fort Worth last Saturday night, leaving the North Texas community in mourning. The circumstances of his death are a sobering reminder of the dangers that exist on Texas highways.

Martinez claims that they were driving home from her parents’ house on I-20 near Hulen Road in Fort Worth when their Toyota sedan was rear-ended by another vehicle. Torres got out of the car to exchange insurance information with the other driver. This is when disaster struck.

Torres was thrown across a traffic lane when a motorcycle collided with the back of the car. Despite first responders’ efforts, he and the motorcyclist died at the scene. Martinez was hurt in the crash and will need surgery, but their 3-year-old son was unharmed.

This tragedy serves as a reminder of the importance of staying alert on the road, particularly for motorcycle riders. At the time of the accident, the motorcyclist was speeding and attempting to cross multiple lanes, according to witnesses.
