Motorcycle Safety
The Texas Transportation Code Chapter 661 requires that all motorcycle riders under the age of 21 wear a helmet. Since this does not apply to riders over the age of 21, some riders elect not to wear a helmet. This can prove fatal if they are involved in an accident. However, a motorcyclist should know that if they are not wearing a helmet, the law requires that they either carry valid health insurance or have completed a safety course. These laws are designed to keep motorcyclists safe on the roads.
A number of hazards and threats on the roads particularly impact motorcyclists. Examples include:
- Drunk or impaired drivers
- Distracted drivers
- Poorly maintained roadways, including potholes
- Lack of visibility
- Failure to maintain a proper distance
If someone believes their accident resulted from a motorist’s failure to obey safety rules, reach out to a Sherman motorcycle accident attorney to discuss liability.
