Automobiles continue to modernize and improve the standard of safety for drivers, but people on the street, unfortunately, remain just as unprotected as ever in the event of an accident. Pedestrians can always fall victim to drivers who have poor vision, are distracted by their smartphones, are intoxicated, or are negligent in a litany of other ways.
Types of Pedestrian Injuries
Texas has the second-highest number of licensed drivers and the third-highest number of pedestrian deaths of any state in the United States, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association. A pedestrian accident can result in an array of different injuries, including:
- Cuts and bruises
- Fractures
- Neck and spine injuries
- Concussions and other traumatic brain injuries
- Amputations
Even if a pedestrian is fortunate to escape from a traffic incident with only a minor wound, seemingly negligible injuries can quickly worsen, becoming burdensome and expensive due to extended hospital stays and long-term rehabilitation. Any injury that requires medical attention could be the impetus for a civil injury lawsuit.
